These Jewish families were granted permission to make Ali yah to Israel. As part of the process, they were instructed to live near the Israeli Embassy to be prepared to depart on short notice. They relocated from their home region in northern Ethiopia to Addis Ababa, a capital city. However, they’ve been caught in a 25-year waiting loop, leaving many still in limbo. In this prolonged process, families have expanded, marriages have struggled, and jobs remain scarce. Many husbands returned north, leaving wives and children to navigate extreme poverty alone. These single mothers live in 8’x8’ makeshift homes, doing whatever work they can to support their children.
To sustain their families, the women handcraft embroidered pillowcases depicting Biblical stories and their personal journeys. Our Gihon of Hope team is committed to lifting these families out of poverty by purchasing their handmade items.
